I got my soldering iron out again today and have assembled a PowerSwitch Tail II and connected it to a Raspberry Pi via the GPIO.

Using a Raspberry Pi I am able to programmatically turn a mains appliance on and off again.

Further details may be found at http://rocode.com/powerswitchtail/

PIR Soldered PCB

Today I got my soldering iron out after a very long time with it kept in my toolbox.

I replaced the solder less circuit I prototype last year (see http://rocode.com/sensors/#PIR) with the new soldered PCB shown below.

The green LED is lit when movement is detected by the PIR Module.

I purchased a spacing header strip from ebay and cut off a few for this PCB. However the pins are to short and the cables easily dislodge. I put sticky tape on them for now. I plan to buy another strip with longer pins and replace those used here.

I had lots of trouble working out what were the GPIO pin outs and the corresponding software pins in the WiringPi software (see http://wiringpi.com/). It appears that the pin numbers used in my download are somehow different to published current GPIO connector (see https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/usage/gpio/).

I am currently using a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B running with the Raspbian OS (see https://www.raspbian.org/). As the Raspberry Pi Zero was recently released I would like to try this with a USB Ethernet adapter as a cheaper replacement for the computer.

This is a 3rd year Subject within the Department of Banking and Finance on the Clayton campus.

There is now a page on Rocode for my Teaching Associate job.

The Geelong Amateur Radio Club hosted an event in July 2015 called "From Morse To The Magnetron".

The exhibition was a display of military communications equipment 1914 - 1960.

I have uploaded a number of photos to my ham radio website.

On discovering the Fritzing freeware circuit prototyping application on the network at work this week.

I have drafted new versions of my home network sensor circuits using the application and uploaded them to my sensors page.

The three circuits are for a Reed Switch, PIR Module and Pressure Mat connected to a Raspberry Pi computer. For example here is the Reed Switch Schematic and Breadboard Prototype.

The breadboard diagram details the wiring between the Raspberry Pi, Breadboard and Reed Switch.
